Casino History
Ameristar Black Hawk opened in December 2001 as the largest casino in Colorado. Plans for the casino by real estate development company Windsor Woodmont had first surfaced four years prior in 1997.
At the time, the casino was called the Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt. It was the first piece of what would eventually become a destination resort, complete with a large hotel, convention center, nightclubs, a spa, and more.
The Black Hawk Casino had a rough start, producing sub-par revenues in its first year of operation. This ultimately led to Windsor Woodmont defaulting on bond payments and filing for bankruptcy protection in late 2002, leading to a change in ownership and the renaming of the business.
Ameristar Casinos bought out the property two years later in a deal worth almost $120 million. The casino rebranded to the Ameristar Black Hawk in 2006, following vast improvements to the facilities.
A hotel tower was added in 2009, featuring 536 guest rooms and suites. The tower is the tallest building in Colorado outside of Denver.
The hotel’s Ara Spa provides six treatment rooms and a fitness center, complete with massages, facials, scrubs, and manicure/pedicure options.
The swimming pool facilities feature a rooftop pool and hot tub spas with panoramic views of the mountains. A retractable glass wall can be closed in the winter to keep the area warm.
Four different restaurant options are available, catering to different price ranges and atmospheres. These include:
- Centennial Buffet
- Timberline Grill, an upmarket steakhouse
- Fireside Kitchen, a casual restaurant
- Waypost Deli, for quick bites.
Ameristar Black Hawk has two bar and lounge options:
- Bar 8042, located in the heart of the casino
- Club 38, a VIP bar and lounge with complimentary food and drink.
Loyalty Program

Recent Photos Of Ameristar Poker Room Blackhawk
The game isn’t that popular in Colorado, and as such you
should be able to do quite well if you bring a solid game. A lot
of the play is passive which means you may have to show a little
more patience then you would in Nevada or California, but this
isn’t such a bad thing. One other important thing to keep in
mind is that Marijuana is legal in Colorado, so if you have a
losing session you could always smoke away your blues, if that’s
your thing.
